Answer: We have found that this length of time is adequate for most organizations, but if necessary, you can rent the composition for an additional four (4) weeks for half the original rental fee. During the period of time you rent the music your organization can perform the composition as many times as you wish without any additional charges. Since a high percentage of the compositions we rent are still under copyright, we have a limited number of sets available for use. When a composition is indicated in our catalog as "RENTAL ONLY", it usually means that the copyright is not owned by Luck's Music Library. We have a number of compositions that are in high demand by our customers; because of this, we must limit the rental period so other orchestras can rent the same piece of music. Question: Why are the fees for lost and damaged parts on some compositions higher than others? Answer: If a composition is available for rent or sale, the fee for a lost or damaged part is the sale price of that part. For a composition indicated "RENTAL ONLY", the fee for a lost part is much higher and can be quite substantial. Rental only music usually means the copyright is not owned by Luck's Music Library and a limited number of sets are available for use. If an orchestra were to lose a wind part, it could render the complete set useless since we are unable to photocopy or replace that part. If a previously irreplaceable lost part is returned to us, we will refund the "missing parts" fee. I understand why many orchestras may feel uncomfortable with this arrangement and Luck's will be glad to refer your organization to the original copyright holder for the rental. However, if you feel comfortable using our "RENTAL ONLY" music, our rental fees are usually much lower than the original copyright holders. Question: When shipping rental music back to Luck's, United Parcel Service (UPS) has refused to insure the package for the amount that you request. What should we do? Answer: We are asked this question frequently and have spoken to UPS regarding their policy on insuring packages. Our understanding is that if the value can be substantiated, they will insure the package. Feel free to contact us and we will issue a proforma invoice to establish the value of the music. We have no objections if you feel more comfortable using another courier. Question: Our Orchestra has purchased music and found that the music ordered was not suitable for our group. Why does Luck's have a no-return policy? Answer: Luck's Music Library stocks over 25,000 orchestral compositions from dozens of publishers throughout the world. Because many of these compositions have little demand we may stock only one copy. Our no return policy helps us to control our inventory and assures that works will be in stock for immediate shipment. To assist you in your selection of music, we will provide you with the opportunity to preview any conductor score listed in our catalogs. In addition, many compositions are available for examination on our website along with MP3 files for listening. Under some extenuating circumstances returns maybe allowed. Contact us for authorization. Question: As a conductor I have found many of your compositions containing errors including performance material not matching the conductor score. These errors result in additional rehearsal time and added cost. Answer: Luck's Music Library, like E.F. Kalmus, reprints music which is in the public domain. We try our best to reprint from an edition with no errors but this may not always be possible. If the demand is great enough, we may retype the composition as we have recently done with the Nutcracker. If you find another edition or would like to upgrade, feel free to return the Luck's edition and replace it without any penalty. |
